Touch to Start
Every year, the Ubud Village Jazz Festival (UVJF) is the most anticipated event for jazz musicians and fans, both from Indonesia and abroad. Having run for 11 editions, it consistently delivers unforgettable musical experiences. According to UVJF’s music curator, Yuri Mahatma, Ubud was chosen as the festival’s location because of its deep connection with rich local art and culture.
Previously, UVJF was held at the Arma Museum, but starting in 2023, it moved to a new location at Sthala Ubud, Lodtunduh Village, Gianyar. The main reason for this change was that the Arma Museum could no longer accommodate the increasing number of stages, which now total three. Additionally, traffic congestion in Ubud, particularly on Jalan Raya Pengosekan leading to the Arma Museum, was a serious consideration.
According to Lasta Arimbawa, GM of Sthala Ubud, collaborating with UVJF aligns perfectly with their company’s spirit. Moreover, the festival brings many indirect benefits to Sthala, from promotion to increased visitor numbers.
For the Sthala Ubud Village Jazz Festival 2024, UVJF is showcasing three stages named Giri, Padi, and Subak. These names were carefully chosen to represent the beauty of Bali’s nature. The stages, made of bamboo, are set by the Tukad Wos river, offering stunning natural views. This design allows visitors to enjoy the beautiful evening sky while listening to jazz, adding a romantic and magical touch to every performance.
The Sthala Ubud Village Jazz Festival 2024 was a hit, held on August 2-3, 2024, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who attended. The two-day festival attracted around 3,000 visitors, who were treated to spectacular performances from various musicians.
On Friday, August 2, 2024, the Padi stage featured Rason, Jazz Centrum, and Adien Fazmail Quinteto. The Subak stage hosted Benny Irawan Trio and Noe Clerc Trio. Meanwhile, the Giri stage showcased Uwe Plath Quartet with Dian Pratiwi, New Centropezn with Horns, and Rodrigo Pajero Quartet.
On Saturday, August 3, 2024, the Padi stage presented Fawr, Claude Diallo Trio with Indra Gupta and Gustu Brahmanta, and Uwe Plath Quartet. The Subak stage was enlivened by Eric Chong Trio with Sinuksma & Kanhaiya and New Centropezn (Quartet). On the Giri stage, performances by Collective Harmony, Simone Prattico Trio, Zagorski-Skowronski Project feat Kajetan Galas, and Galaxy Bigband were the main attractions.
UVJF 2024 also demonstrated a commitment to humanity and the environment. Collaborating with Niluh Bali, the event embraced the theme “Love Is Us,” which symbolizes a hopeful blessing – a good intention to pray for and support one another. Blessed are you, me, him, her, them, and all of us. This collaboration involved 79 artists with a total of 110 lanterns, whose sales proceeds were donated to children with cancer. Additionally, UVJF is committed to environmental preservation by using bamboo stages and partnering with Eco Bali to manage festival waste.
UVJF’s environmental awareness caught the attention of Paramatex, a fabric store in Bali currently focusing on eco-friendly fabrics. Committed to using more sustainable materials, Paramatex saw an opportunity to collaborate with UVJF. This partnership not only benefits the environment but is also mutually advantageous. Paramatex gains wider exposure to an audience that cares about sustainability, while the festival adds value with comfortable and attractive T-shirt designs for visitors. At the Sthala Ubud Village Jazz Festival 2024, Paramatex is sponsoring by providing clothing made from 30s cotton combed fabric. This fabric was chosen because it’s super soft, comfortable to wear, and great at wicking away sweat.
With all the efforts to combine music, art, and environmental care, UVJF and Paramatex together create a more meaningful experience for everyone. So, if you missed this year’s festival, make sure not to miss it next year and enjoy every colorful and meaningful moment of the Ubud Village Jazz Festival!
