T-shirts are one of the clothes that are often worn by men. Cool designs and comfortable materials make clothes with t-shirts selling well on the market. But did you know about the cotton combed material used as the clothing material?

T-shirts generally use two types of cotton combed materials, namely cotton combed 24s and 30s. You may have heard of this type of fabric when you want to buy a t-shirt? So, do you know the difference? This time MINKA (Mimin Kain) will review the differences between the two to help you choose a t-shirt made from cotton combed.

1. Difference Of The Fabric Thickness

The number that comes after the word cotton combed, such as 24 or 30, actually indicates the thread count, indicating the thickness of the thread used to make the cotton fabric. The higher the number, the finer the thread, so that in terms of thickness, cotton combed 30s is thinner than cotton combed 24s.

But don’t make the mistake of thinking that thicker cotton is better. Each has its advantages and uses. Both are also made of cotton which is a comfortable and durable material.

The “s” that comes after the number 24 or 30 indicates the number of knitting needles. The letter “s” stands for single knitt, this knitting method only uses one needle so the result is usually more tenuous than a double needle, or often referred to as a double needle, with the abbreviation “d” after the thread thickness number.

So, cotton combed 24s means it has a thread size of 24 and is knitted with one needle. Most t-shirts use single knit to make the t-shirts thinner and more comfortable to wear. Double crochet is mostly used in materials that require a higher density, such as children’s t-shirts.

2. The Difference in Fabric Weight

Not only the thickness, cotton combed 24s and 30s are also distinguished in terms of the weight of the fabric. The weight of the fabric in combed cotton or commonly called grams uses gsm units (grams/meter square).

Grammatical on cotton combed 24s is heavier than 30s because it is thicker. The gramage of cotton combed 24s is around 175-185 gsm. Meanwhile, the gram for cotton combed 30s is around 140-150 gsm. Since these numbers are not absolute numbers, some cotton combed manufacturers may also set their own grammatical standards. But the count of cotton combed 24s is always heavier than cotton combed 30s.

3. Comfort When Used

Made of cotton, cotton combed 24s and 30s are comfortable and cool when worn, because this material is a natural material that has pores in the fabric which allow air to circulate throughout the body.

If you look closely, the cotton combed 30s material is slightly lighter and more breathable when worn compared to the cotton combed 24s material. This is because the cotton combed 30s material is thinner and lighter.

So if you’re looking for clothes that are cool and suitable for tropical weather, cotton combed 30s can be an option. However, if you’re looking for warmer clothes to wear in colder weather, cotton combed 24 could be the right choice. Both are also relatively cooler than synthetic materials such as polyester.

4. What Clothes Can Cotton Combed 24s and 30s be Used for?

Because they are thinner, lighter and more breathable, cotton combed 30s is often used to make t-shirts that are ready for printing. This t-shirt is suitable for those who often do activities so they don’t get hot even though they are worn in hot weather.

Meanwhile, cotton combed 24s fabrics are also commonly found on distro shirts, especially shirts worn by women. The cotton combed 24s fabric is used because the material is thicker and not see through. Cotton combed 24s is also commonly used in Muslim clothing because of its thickness.

5. The Difference in Terms of Price

The last difference between the cotton combed 24s and the 30s is the price. Interestingly, cotton combed 24s, which has a larger and thicker thread size before being made into t-shirts, is even cheaper than cotton combed 30s. This is because more T-shirts can be made from the same amount of cotton combed 30s than cotton combed 24s.

After the t-shirt is finished, the price can vary depending on the brand that sells it or the distributor. There are those who sell cotton combed t-shirts which are more expensive, there are also those who sell cotton combed 24s and 30s t-shirts at the same price depending on which distributor the shirts are sold from.
